Consultant (through Alltech International, Excel Global Partners, Verigent, Act Consulting and Collabera) for various clients including The Treasury Department (FinCEN), The Library of Congress, Vision Technologies, Deutsche Bank, and Bank of America

·   Hired to work, as a Senior Support Engineer, on an HP hardware (datacenter server) migration project, titled "Nucleus," for Deutsche Bank, that never materialized. While waiting for this project to begin, supported a, very large, cloud infrastructure that is the underlying environment in which almost seven thousand Java, or JVM (ie: Weblogic, Tomcat and JBoss), mostly container, based applications function. Only contractor on a four person DAP SME team (including the worldwide Deutsche Bank DAP cloud owner) that supported, primarily, the North American part of this global banking infrastructure.

·   Analysed the Library of Congress's Oracle 11g / 12c middleware infrastructure to confirm that it was setup and being run, and secured, properly. Created a comprehensive backup document detailing every singe step necessary to backup every component of this same environment.

·   Production (and other environment) O&M support of Oracle 11g R1, Weblogic, BI Publisher, OIM, OAM, OHS, OUD, SOA based SSO Middleware for FinCEN, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network; which is part of The Treasure Department.

·   Worked with Oracle engineer to configure Oracle Convergence secure email on RHEL 7, at FinCEN, before this secure email product was certified to run on this operating system.

·   Comprehensive patch plan, and document, development for Oracle 11.1.1.6 Weblogic, OHS, and APEX applications (for LOC).

·   Analyzed Oracle Fusion Middleware environment for possible necessary improvements (for LOC).

·   Security patch plan development for Oracle 11.1.1.7 Weblogic, WebCenter Content and WebCenter Portal applications (FinCEN).

·   Engineering, transitional, and 2nd tier operational support of the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) Control Access and Information Security System (NCAISS), the Industrial Security Facilities Database (ISFD), Security Training Education and Professionalization Portal (STEPP), and Office of Designated Approval Authority (ODAA) Business Management System (OBMS), and other, applications for Defense Security Services (DSS).

·   Worked with  a team of Deloitte developers to migrate the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) Control Access and Information Security System (NCAISS), JBoss 4.2.3 based, identity management solution to an Oracle Fusion Middleware (11g R2, Weblogic, OIM, OAM, OHS, OUD) based single sign on (SSO) front end for the STEPP, OBMS (and later ISFD) applications.

·   Supported major government applications running on Windows 2003, Solaris 10, and RHEL, operating systems, JBoss 4.2.3 Application Server, Apache and IIS web server, Java, and BI Publisher, using the vSphere client to reach them, within a VMware 5x infrastructure.

·   As a BMC Remedy administrator, created and troubleshot BMC Remedy user accounts. Briefly assisted those installing BMC Remedy.

·   Used Microsoft Expression Web to create a web site for the applications engineering team.

·   Functioned as an FBI organizational IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) process Subject Matter Expert towards the approval of the Juniper (Network Connect) VPN client for usage on the unclassified network; so that the FBI WMDD BCU could reach their externally hosted (LAMP based) Drupal web server.

·   Developed a security test plan for testing the the Juniper (Network Connect) VPN client to pass the TCCB.

·   Prepared organizational ITIL briefing documents for customer to strategize paths to VPN client accreditation success.

JBOSS Application and Systems Engineer

·   As part of a two man team, supported the FBI's Jboss (4.2.3) Middleware Application Server environment; server, application server, etc.

·   Supported developers who maintained over 8 different, Java based, major server applications.

·   Worked with Windows 2003 & 2008, JBossAS 4.2.3 / 7.x and JBoss EAP 6.x.

·   Assisted in transitioning the FBI’s production web application environment from open source JBoss AS 4.2.3 to Red Hat JBoss EAP 6.x.

·   Created, configured, and installed, SSL key pairs for importation into an F5 Load Balancer, JBossApplication Servers, for FISAMS, so that they could transition from a single instance server to a load balanced cluster.

·   Fully documented SSL implementation (secure communication from end to end) for both Windows and Unix, for the FBI.

·   Worked with the 8 JBoss web application customers (FIDS, FISAMS, IIFQ, and others), in yearly FBI disaster recovery procedures failing over all JBoss production applications to a backup site.

Windows & VMware Systems Administrator and Assistant Engineer

·   O&M administration, on 3 enclaves, of over 50 VMware 4.1 (Windows 2003) virtual servers, their physical ESX hosts and applications; such as SQL, Exchange, etc. Performed daily data center operations support of both physical and virtual servers and applications.

·   Migrated Exchange 2010 accounts; tested backup data integrity with a restoration using Backup Exec.

·   As the first (strategic) administrator on the base, worked with engineers to assist them in standing up servers and the network; and,with the knowledge gained, provided technical continuity to follow on personnel for 25th Signal (Army).

Senior Systems Engineer, Project Manager, and Environment Manager

·   The only VMware Server Environment Manager, Systems Engineer, and Administrator, for a NATO cleared, completely virtualized, Windows 2003 NIPR and SIPR development, and production  environment, for the U.S. Marine Corps Center for Lessons Learned, through AT&T, at Quantico, VA.

·   Finished a (partially completed) VMWare ESX hardware transition project to new, harware redundant, iSCSI Clariion EMC AX4 SAN; refreshing a non-redundant SIPR environment.

·   Mapped all iSCSI connections for physical movement of the SAN into a data center down the road.

·   Worked directly with the webmasters who were programming on the U.S. Marine Corps Center for Lessons Learned web site.

·   As the Project Manager, utilized Microsoft Project, as a scheduling tool, to set dates, and work-a-rounds, transitioning the "Lessons Learned" web site from the old physical, non-redundant hardware to the new, redundant, hardware.

·   At the command line console used GhettoVCB, and putty, to perform daily, and weekly, backups.

·   Set up a virtual test lab, within the VMWare ESX development environment, for the future Windows 2008 Server virtual machines to test to see if these would work together, without any issues, with numerous upgrades like moving from CF8 to Cold Fusion 9.

·   Supported (and trained on) iGeoSIT, the Interim Geo-Spatial Satellite Intelligence Tool, (and additional FAS applications) for NCSA, NATO, ISAF, and CJ6, at the Kabul International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.

·   Supported an extremely complex Apache Web Server that used numerous Tomcat services (and ODBC) to pull together maps, data, and images, from many sources; for live battlefield component awareness; for the highest levels of command.

 

Axelon, Radford, Virginia (Contractor)March 2010 – May 2010

Windows Systems Administrator and Engineer

·   Managed a project to replace a physical server environment, for the ALTESS developer team, for all of that team’s external customers; including installing and configuring a (pre-STIGed) Windows 2008 VM, running a Multi-Server instance of Cold Fusion 9, as a template, to clone 7 additional virtual machines; so that several major government customers could be transitioned to new hardware.

·   Part of a Windows 2003 Server support team supporting several hundred Windows Servers; including about one hundred virtual machines, at ALTESS (Acquisition Logistics Testing Enterprise Systems and Services), at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA.

·   Using VMware ESXi 4.1, supported Cold Fusion 8 with SureSync, Citrix Bastion Host servers with Citrix Presentation

Windows Systems Security Engineer

·   Built and secured (STIGed) servers to DOD standards with the DISA Gold Disk and Retina Eye.

·   Managed various projects such as the one where I worked with various groups, directly, to get almost all of San Antonio, TX. DISA’s servers to be backed up, automatically, using VeritasNetbackup 6.5.3.1.

·   Worked with Tier 3 consultants to install Business Objects (BOXI), Oracle Enterprise Manager and Client, Sybase SQL Anywhere, Infomaker, Serena and other applications.

·   Patched, upgraded, troubleshot and supported Java, Apache Tomcat and Loadrunner

·   Used the Sniffer Wireshark; Assisted in one Oracle installation

·   Worked with Microsoft to solve difficult DNS replication and DNS High Memory utilization issues; for which they created a new patch.

·   Troubleshot IOCd domain controllers and finalizing their operational status before handing them off to OKC DISA.

·   Created “Lessons Learned” documents. Worked with McAfee, Symantec and HBSS (not the ePO console itself).

·   Installed, and configured, Fiber Channel (HBA) NICs for SAN, back end storage, connectivity.

·   Supported over 400 of the VA’s Windows 2003 / 2000 servers using BMC Patrol, RDP and other technologies.

·   Created, and maintained, a web page for the 310 Wintel Support Group.

·   Single point of technical support for 3^rd shift on 2 days of the week.

·   QCd and corrected, incomplete, or incorrect, server build documentation.

 

Decypher, San Antonio, Texas (Contractor)November 2007 – September 2008

Senior Systems Engineer, Senior Technical Liaison, and Principal Project Manager

·   As the senior of two systems engineers, supported 50 (mostly) Windows 2003 servers for the world’s largest training center (of any kind), the Army Medical Department Center and School (AMEDDC&S), at Ft. Sam Houston, as a right hand of the Chief of the G6.

·   Served as the senior technical liaison between the AMEDDC&S and the Ft. Sam Houston base DOIM IT personnel.

·   Managed most AMEDDC&S server related projects; including one where I worked with the junior administrator, one DOIM vertical blade server administrator, and two server design engineers, to spec out HP ProLiant BL200c vertical blade servers to replace all of the existing 50 AMEDDC&S Dell servers.

·   Stopped a congressional investigation by signing, and taking responsibility for, an unencrypted, and unsecure, application and database. Worked with the vendor, of this application, to upgrade Docuware from 4 to 5; providing built in, browser based, https (SSL) encryption in motion; and thus securing student school records after Army DOIM personnel locked TRADOC’s unsecure database down.

·   Before the advent of pre-STIGged OS images, secured and pushed through the CCB / ITIL approval process, for operational usage, a war games analysis server in one week; in addition to continuing to perform all of my other duties at the same time.

·   Copied, and re-configured, a VMWare virtual server, on the network, but off the AD domain, (in an unroutable subnet) in support of developers needing to harden web code after the school's primary (external facing) web page was reverse SQL injected (hacked).

·   Presented a status report, of my work, before the Change Control Board (CCB), after security hardening the operating system for the above server (that was hacked), to allow it to go back into production (per DISA standards); in agreement with standard ITIL practices.

·   After the junior systems engineer left, managed all 50 servers while training, and managing, both replacement, civil service and systems administrators.

·   Supported Docuware, NREMT, LXR, NRI, Sybase, ASAT, Solaris 9, HP-UX, Informix, DMLSS, and Clustered Microsoft SQL 2000 & 2005 Servers.

·   Supported webmasters, .NET programmers and DBAs in the transition to new servers.

·   Supported IIS, clustered web & SQL Servers, and one, two node, SharePoint cluster.

·   Recovered lost Sybase data when backed up data was unavailable.

·   Secured servers to Army, DISA & DOD standards manually, and with Hercules and Retina Scans, in conjunction with IA; and prepared some for AKO / SSO.
